first of all... I love vintage accessories... not so much clothes.. but there is something so fabulous about vintage handbags and jewelry... can't get enough. Thats why I'm totally in love with Weston Jewelers, they hand pick the most beautiful and unique cocktail rings from estate sales and resell to us fashionistas.. if you can afford it. (maybe some day!)

oh and they have a huge collection of vintage and antique engagement rings!

New Year... fresh start

2011, I love you already. There are so many changes happening for me personally and professionally that I am really excited to see what the rest of 2011 has to offer.

I started off the new year in my new (very cool) downtown loft apartment, right in the heart of san diego's gaslamp district... the building is one of the oldest in san diego and features marble floors with ornate brass elevator doors (I'll have to take a pic later!).

Newly single with so many goals in front of me. 1.) finish my business plan (which has been looming over my head for so long!) 2.) get the new website i've been working on published (almost done!) 3.) Don't work TOO much! 4.) Workout 6 days a week (yoga, running and spin!) because its good for the soul.. 5.) Run my next 1/2 marathon in under 1:55 (which isnt too lofty a goal since the last one I finished in under 1:58 but I only have 3 weeks left to train!) 6. Get lots of new product out there for all my brides and fabulous ladies!

Cleaning out the closets

Moving always forces you to look at the nonsense you've collected over the years and have stuffed at the back of your closets... thus.. I have recently come to the realization that I am a fabric hoarder. I have so much fabric!!! yardage of heavy weight cottons, canvas, silk, quilting fabrics, satins... you name... scraps galore. I can't get myself to throw it away so I am going to try to sell it.. anyone interested? It will make the perfect gift for any designer or quilter!!

a vision in taffeta... this was tough for the girl that only works with silk and cotton, given remnants of a taffeta "mother of the bride" dress I was challenged to make a large clutch, anything goes and it was definitely a "make it work" moment. (besides the terrible iphone camera shots) I think it came out ok! I hope she likes it...

OMG i am the worlds worst blogger. seriously. But I am going to stop feeling so bad about myself for it and do something. like actually get online and blog everyday? probably not. but i'll try to as much as I can!

There has been so much going on! first... I moved into my new design studio in June! Its amazing (well still lacking anything on the walls or any kind of organization... but we'll get there!)

My studio is in the heart of the art and design district in downtown San Diego... so yummy (as my yoga instructor would say).

We have been expanding into boutiques and bridal salons throughout Southern California which has been so exciting! Even getting some editorial, totally yummy.

Well thats all for today, back to work!

Don't get your feathers all in a ruffle!

This posting is for all the beautiful feathered clutches I have sold over the past two years. (Maybe should have posted sooner)

If your feathers get a little ruffled in transit or while they were sitting nicely waiting to be carried on your wedding day, do not worry, there is help!

All you have to do is simply iron your feathers out or steam them out. It is ok for ostrich feathers to get wet, they will dry and look just as lovely as they were before!

I simply put my iron on a steam setting and gently press downward in the direction I want them to go. There you go, its that easy!

Genessa and Kevin had an absolutely gorgeous wedding in Rancho Mirage, CA and I was so pleased to be able to be a part of their special day!

Genessa's clutch was custom designed to match her fabulous gown, it featured a vintage rhinestone brooch with feather embellishment and a "something blue" lining (which just happened to match her blue converse she wore down the isle).

One of my clients (who is having a very etsy wedding) sent me a picture of these fabulous manolos worn by Carrie Bradshaw on her wedding day and asked me to create a purse for her based on the shoes...

It all started during summer 2005 when I moved the 3,000 miles to Southern California from Rhode Island. Inspired by my indie entrepreneur roommate I started creating small handbags (which are now hidden deep in my closet for no one to see!). It truly was an organic process, slowly developing my craft while building a clientele and trying to find a niche in the handbag market.

In 2007 I discovered Etsy, (yay!) Is this for real? A place where I could sell my products to people who are looking to purchase handmade? It was so easy! Might as well give it a try... and so I did, since then my business has grown and changed and I have found myself creating custom handbags for the bridal market. Now how come I didn't think of this sooner? I've always been fascinated by weddings and I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Wedding Industry.

I love what I do and am excited for what the future has in store for Cady Briar. Stay tuned!
